A 7.4 earthquake hit western Colombia on 10 August. Houses, roads, schools and water systems came down with it. Fundación Si Mujer is getting money to women's organizations that already live and work in those neighborhoods — the people who know which street flooded, which family lost a roof, which girl stopped going to school.

Follow @fundacionsimujercali →Buenaventura is a port city of more than 430,000 people. Its only access road was cut, and residents led the search through the rubble themselves, without water or electricity, according to CNN's reporting from the Pacific coast. Buenaventura and Quibdó are Afro-descendant and Indigenous territories that carried decades of exclusion and armed conflict before the ground moved.
31 percent of Chocó's population already faced food insecurity before 10 August, and 29 percent in Valle del Cauca, the World Food Programme told UN News. The 1999 earthquake in the same coffee region killed close to 1,200 people, and rebuilding ran for years. Money given in the coming months will still be doing work in 2028.
Community initiatives that change how girls and women are treated, starting inside the recovery itself.
Displacement and shelters raise the risk of violence against women. Prevention is built into every grant.
Legal, administrative and technical backing so local organizations come out of this stronger than they went in.
Funds will be transferred directly to women's organizations in the hardest-hit regions: Chocó, Buenaventura, Norte del Valle, and the Eje Cafetero. Si Mujer has built long-standing partnerships with most of these organizations over many years. These organizations are currently evaluating local needs to determine how the funds will be prioritized.

They are the ones who know their territories, identify the most urgent needs, and know how to maximize every contribution.
Si Mujer has been working for women's rights and strengthening community processes for over 40 years. For more than 15 years, it has accompanied over 120 women's organizations in Colombia, providing them with resources as well as technical and administrative support.
The organizations linked to the campaign are already conducting assessments in their communities to determine where help is needed most. In addition, Si Mujer will provide public accountings of the funds raised and their distribution. Donate to support women who are rebuilding remote territories."
Si Mujer opened its doors in Cali on 8 March 1984 and has worked on sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender violence and community processes ever since. Read more about the foundation in English.
Over 15 years Si Mujer has given these groups financial, administrative and thematic support across Colombian regions. Several of them sit inside the earthquake zone.
Partner organizations in the affected areas are mapping the most urgent needs in their own communities right now. They decide what the money buys, because they know their territory and they know who has been missed.
Si Mujer will publish public accounts of what the campaign raised and how it was distributed. The campaign covers Chocó, Buenaventura, Norte del Valle and the Eje Cafetero.
